Using Sports to fight Racism

Posted on

The world has always witnessed cases of racial discrimination in sports, particularly football and I’m pleased with some efforts made by FIFA and UEFA in broadcasting anti-Racism messages during sports matches and creating the awareness that the idea of Racial superiority is evil and undermines the fundamentals of human equality. Racism and other forms of discrimination threatens human rights, justice and equality.
UN Special Rapporteur Mutuma Ruteere urges all States “to take appropriate measures to harness the unique potential of sports to debunk racial superiority discourses, mobilize people and convey messages about equality and non-discrimination”
Sports can be an instrument of creating equality and discarding the evil trend of racism, segregation and discrimination, seeing that there are many multiracial teams who are able to put aside race and ethnicity and focus on what they love to do. The world would be so much better and the cause of humanity would be further propagated if we learn to see that no race is superior or inferior. EVERYONE IS EQUAL AND UNITED BY HUMANITY!
